A model prediction control method for a three-level voltage source-type converter, comprising: (1) a relationship model of an alternating current-side current of the three-level voltage source-type converter and a switch function is established; (2) a relationship model of a direct current-side capacitor voltage offset and the switch function is established; (3) a current command value is acquired by an outer voltage loop, while the current command value of the next moment can be calculated and acquired from the current command values of the preceding moments; (4) a value function of a model prediction control algorithm for the three-level voltage source-type converter is set; (5) a switch state subset is calculated; and, (6) real-time prediction control is implemented. The method has a simple algorithm, is easy to implement, and is also applicable in increased-level converters.
