The invention relates to a hydraulic actuation mechanism for automatically lowering conventional toilet seats and lids when water is released from the toilet tank upon flushing. The mechanism is characterised in that it comprises a hydraulic actuator housing an assembly formed by a lower base/vertical actuation shaft/actuator cam assembly which moves upwards under the effect of the pressure of the water inside the actuator when the water in the toilet is flushed, in order to come into contact with, and push against the lower rear edge of a conventional toilet seat and lid so as to apply a force that causes same to move downwards from a vertical position to a horizontal position and cover the toilet bowl. The mechanism also comprises at least one element for slowing down and damping the downward movement of the lid and seat, which is selected from a pair of pneumatic half-spheres housing a volume of air, which are secured at the rear edge of the toilet in the area in which the seat and lid are secured, but below same, and a pair of braking assemblies, namely one for the seat and one for the lid.
