The purpose of the invention is to restore electric power generation performance of a fuel cell system. The present invention includes: a step of stopping a supply of oxidant gas to a fuel cell; and a step of resuming the supply of the oxidant gas to the fuel cell after the voltage generated by the fuel cell has fallen to a predetermined first value or less and the temperature of the fuel cell has fallen to a predetermined second value or less, and causing the fuel cell to resume electric power generation and generate water so as to restore the voltage of the fuel cell.
