DISTRIBUTED INTERNET PROTOCOL MOBILITY MANAGEMENT SUPPORT MECHANISMS

A method for providing robustness in distributed mobility management is described. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is attached to a first distributed gateway (D-GW) via an interface. A tunnel between the first D-GW and a second D-GW is pre-provisioned. The WTRU is attached to the second D-GW and detached from the first D-GW. The tunnel between the first D-GW and the second D-GW that was pre-provisioned is created. Data traffic between the WTRU and the first D-GW is sent via the interface on the second D-GW and using the tunnel between the first D-GW and the second D-GW, thereby providing robustness.
