METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING DATA FOR PERFORMING A SORT WITHIN A SET OF NUMERICAL ENTITIES

The invention relates to a method of processing data so as to perform a sort within a set (104) of numerical entities, termed records, each of said records being represented by at least one numerical datum, termed a value, associated with at least one criterion, termed the sort criterion, and stored in a database (102), termed the source, in association with at least one datum for identifying said record, said method comprising: - a step of receiving a so-called sort request, comprising at least one filtering relationship aimed at a sort criterion, and - a phase of obtaining, on the fly and from said source database (102), a database (108), termed a sort cube, comprising a dimension associated with each sort criterion aimed at in said sort request, each dimension: • being independent of the other dimensions of said cube (108), and • comprising one or more members, each corresponding to a value that can be taken by the sort criterion with which said dimension is associated and storing an identifier of at least one record exhibiting said value in respect of said sort criterion, - a phase of filtering said sort cube (108) with the at least one filtering relationship making up said sort request; and - a phase of determining a sort result, as a function of said filtering.
