The present invention provides a method and system for controlled distribution of prescriptions using a system 100 of patient-assigned containers 10 each with a wirelessly-controlled programmable display and wireless communication units 30 to individually program and change the display. The patient-assigned containers 10 stay in communication with the wireless communication units 30, to assist the administering nurse in the choosing the correct container at the patient bedside, and to warn of prescription changes.
