Provided is a burst-mode receiver which receives burst-mode signals which have different intensities with a reverse-connected APD, said burst-mode receiver comprising: a current detection circuit which outputs the photocurrent at the APD as outputted from a current mirror circuit which is connected in series between a power source and the APD as a voltage which is proportional to the photocurrent; a peak detection circuit which detects and retains a peak value of the outputted voltage of the current detection circuit; a resistor connection switch circuit which is inserted between the current mirror circuit and the APD and switches a series resistor so as to be in series connection with the APD; and a comparator which, if the detected voltage of the peak detector circuit is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold, outputs a switch signal for switching the resistor connection switch circuit such that the series resistor is connected in series to the APD.
