An agent for inducing the differentiation of white adipocytes into brown-like adipocytes, said agent being characterized by comprising a compound represented by formula (1), which is a product of a cyclization reaction of a hydroxystilbene, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. In formula (1), R₁ to R₈ represent a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a saturated or unsaturated and linear or branched alkoxy group having 1-10 carbon atoms, or a saturated or unsaturated and linear or branched alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms, and R₁ to R₈ may be either the same or different.
