A method and device for performing capability negotiation in a long term evolution cluster network; using the method in a cluster core network side comprises: during the process of establishing a call, according to the audiovisual capability information requested for use in the present call and received from a calling cluster terminal, combining the information with the known audiovisual capability information supported by a called cluster terminal and determining the audiovisual capability information used in the present call. Using the method in a cluster terminal side comprises: reporting to a cluster core network the audiovisual capability information supported by the present terminal; when the calling cluster terminal initiates a cluster call, reporting to the cluster core network, during the process of establishing the call, the audiovisual capability information used in the present call. Using the embodiment of the present invention, a core network can negotiate and select the audiovisual capability information of a called terminal in a cluster call, and maximize call establishment in LTE-based cluster networks between terminals having different capabilities, greatly improving user satisfaction.
