The device in question involves a pre-treatment means (10) for pre-moistening and pre-cooling, with sprayed water, the flow of hot gases from the exhaust of the internal-combustion engine; a flow-homogenizing means (30), at least one treatment means (40) for providing final moistening of the exhaust-gas flow, shearing of the solid particles and the compression thereof; an exhaust means (50), receiving the treated gas flow and directing it to a lower outlet (54) for the release of water, exhaust gases containing water vapour and solid particles in suspension; a condensing means (60) receiving the exhaust-gas flow from the exhaust means (50), providing condensation of the water vapour and the collection thereof with entrainment of the particulate material and toxic gases and releasing the flow of purified exhaust gases to the atmosphere; a water source (20); and a collection reservoir (70) for collecting water and condensate from the entrainment of particulate material and toxic gas dissolution.
