PURPOSE: A falling accident prevention apparatus of an elevator and a control method thereof are provided to be able to prevent users from falling even when an external opening door in the elevator waiting hall is arbitrarily open by a malfunction or an external impact. CONSTITUTION: A transport unit (100) moves users to up and down floors. An opening/closing part (200) is equipped along the moving direction of the transport unit. The opening/closing part comprises a door member (210), a wire member (220) connected to the other side of the door member and a drum member (230). The drum member is connected to the wire member, and elevates the other side of the door member. A sensor (300) detects the location of the transport unit. A control unit (400) receives a signal from the sensor, and controls the opening/closing operation of the opening/closing part.
