The present invention relates to water management, particularly, to a method for selecting an optimal location on which a sensor is to be installed, capable of detecting pollutants in a water system including sewage and water. The method comprises the steps of: designing a simulation model including a plurality of links for linking two nodes among a plurality of nodes as including the plurality of nodes corresponding to an expected installation point of the sensor between an inflow port and an outflow port with respect to a sewers network of a specific area; performing simulation using at least one element, that affects the pollution of the sewers network, as input data; calculating a pollution level at the plurality of nodes from the simulation resu and determining at least one node, on which the sensor is to be installed, through statistical analysis based on the pollution level calculation result.
