The present invention relates to a method for storing a thioepoxy compound and a method of preparing a thioepoxy-based optical material using the thioepoxy compound, and particularly, to a method of preparing a colorless and transparent thioepoxy-based optical material having good color and thermal stability, showing small changes according to time, and having high quality by preventing the changes according to time during storing the thioepoxy compound. According to the present invention, a method for storing a thioepoxy compound for an optical material includes storing a thioepoxy compound including 500-2,500 ppm of humidity at -78 to 10C, and a method of preparing a thioepoxy-based optical material including polymerizing a polymerizable composition containing the thioepoxy compound thus stored, are provided. The colorless and transparent thioepoxy-based optical material having high quality and prepared by the present invention may be widely used in various fields instead of a common optical material.
