The present invention relates to an app installation method of a set-top box which uses a master app between a mobile communication terminal which has the master app for controlling the set-top box and the set-top box which has an app installation system which is able to exchange data with the mobile communication terminal. The app installation method includes the following steps in which: the mobile communication terminal connects to a network socket by the master app and transmits authorization data which the app installation system is able to recognize to the set-top box; the set-top box selectively accepts the connection of the master app depending on the result of an authentication data confirmation and notifies the result to the mobile communication terminal; the mobile communication terminal requests a preparation process which includes a storage space securement for storing app data which will be installed and a resource allocation of a related processor by the master app in case a connection between the master app and the set-top box is made; the set-top box answers the mobile communication terminal with a message of accepting the app data transmission of the master app after completing the preparation process; according to responses, the mobile communication terminal transmits related data which includes an app for set-top box to the master app or transmits data which includes a network address capable of downloading the app for set-top box from a network storage to the set-top box; and the set-top box transmits a predetermined message to the mobile communication terminal in order to confirm the installation completion of the master app after installing the transmitted app. By the present invention, set-top box app developers are able to easily provide apps for users and the users are able to easily install the apps in a set-top box which uses a smartphone, etc.
