The present invention relates to an antibacterial agent and an antioxidant containing the essential oil of anthricus sylvestris or a main ingredient thereof as an active ingredient. The essential oil of anthricus sylvestris and α-terpinolene and myristicin as the main ingredient thereof of the present invention have excellent inhibitory activity against food poisoning bacteria and antibiotic-resistance bacteria, thereby being useful as a natural antibacterial agent; and have excellent DPPH free radical inhibitory activity and nitrite reducing power, thereby being useful as a natural antioxidant.
