The present invention relates to a decomposition determining apparatus and method, and a refrigeration system and a smart building system using the same. A decomposition determining apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a gas detecting unit which electrochemically reacts with gas generated from an object to detect the gas; a gas classification unit which classifies constituent components of the detected gas using statistical learning algorithm; and a decomposition determining unit which compares the constituent component ratio of the classified gas and a preset reference constituent ratio to determine decomposition of the object. Therefore, it is possible to determine the decomposition of the object through the electrochemical reaction with the gas generated from the object. In addition, it is possible to keep foods fresh by determining the decomposition of the foods stored in the refrigeration apparatus.
