The purpose of the present invention is to provide an infrared transceiver capable of extending a communication distance between infrared transceivers by changing only the waveform of a control signal without the design change of an existing infrared transceiver, and an operating method thereof. As a means for achieving the above purpose, the infrared transceiver includes: an infrared receiver which receives an infrared signal; and an infrared transmitter which processes, into an infrared signal, a control signal for controlling a device with the infrared receiver mounted therein, and which outputs the infrared signal, wherein the control signal includes a read code indicating the start of the control signal, and the width of an on pulse of the read code is defined to be the recognizable minimum value. According to the present invention as described above, the infrared transceiver having a control signal capable of extending a communication distance and the operating method thereof can extend a communication distance between infrared transceivers by changing only the waveform of a control signal without the hardware design change of an existing infrared transceiver, thereby utilizing the existing infrared transceiver.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2014
