Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for estimating physical properties of an underground medium through waveform inversion with respect to the Poissons ratio. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for estimating the physical properties of an underground medium comprises: a step of setting a virtual subsurface model with respect to the physical properties of an underground medium including the Poissons ratio; a step of setting the equation including a parameter with respect to the Poissons ratio, and calculating modeling data with respect to the virtual subsurface model by calculating the equation based on a set virtual subsurface model; and a step of updating the virtual subsurface model by comparing data measured by passing through the underground medium with the modeling data.
