PURPOSE: A novel tetranuclear arene-ruthenium compound is provided to show superior anticancer effect and to prevent and treat cancer. CONSTITUTION: A tetranuclear arene-ruthenium compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer contains the compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof shows an anticancer activity through cancer cell apoptosis. The cancer is solid cancer.
