Disclosed are a wind power generator with an available and extended wind speed range, and a control method thereof. A wind power generator with an extended wind speed range for power generation according to the present invention comprises: a low-speed generator and a high-speed generator which are sequentially connected to a rotary shafts transmitting a rotating force due to the rotations of blades and which are capable of generating power in a low wind speed range and a high wind speed range respectively; a power converting part transmitting power, which is generated in at least one of the low-speed generator and the high-speed generator, to an electrical grid, or transmitting the power of the electrical grid to at least one of the low-speed generator and the high-speed generator; and a control part controlling to connect or separate the low-speed generator and the high-speed generator to or from the electrical grid according to measured wind speeds.
