A method and a device for driving an OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode)-based display capable of reducing power consumption are provided to reduce entire power consumption of a portable terminal by supplying power to an active window and supplying no power to other parts in the portable terminal selectively using battery power. A mode selector(100) selects an adapter or battery mode. A controller(102) displays an active window to a full screen in case of the adapter mode and displays the active mode to a partial screen in case of the battery mode. A graphic controller(103) obtains active window information from at least one window displayed in the screen when the battery mode is set. A display unit(104) generates a control signal for displaying only the active window by received the active window information from the graphic controller. A matrix controller(105) displays the active window by driving only the light emitting media corresponding to the active window in response to the control signal.
