A remote monitoring system for senior citizens who live alone using a gateway having a self-call function includes a gateway which examines if a senior citizen who lives alone receives a call using a self-bell function for ringing a bell by itself and, if it is determined that the senior citizen is under any personal danger, sends estimated personal danger data to a service management server. By doing so, the present invention is able to resolve the existing management difficulties of the service management server such as call charges, server device costs, or traffic increases for executing a self-call function. Therefore, it is possible to monitor and react to personal danger signs or emergencies of senior citizens who live alone in a more economic, faster, and more accurate manner than previously by executing a self-call function at a certain point of time when the necessity of checking senior citizens who live alone is high so that the social security network system for senior citizens who live alone can be efficiently operated.
