The present invention relates to a weight-training device, and more particularly, to a motorized weight-training device that is capable of easily moving and being easily installed due to a small size and light weight thereof and a method of controlling the same. According to one aspect of the present invention, the motorized weight-training device includes a grasp part; a wire with one end connected to the grasp part; a winch drum around which the other end of the wire is wound to be coupled thereto; a driving part configured to rotate the winch drum, thereby applying a preset load to the grasp part; and a tension sensor coming in contact with a predetermined position of the wire to measure tension of the wire. The tension sensor includes two outer pulleys arranged along the direction of the wire; an inner pulley disposed between the two outer pulleys to press the wire hung on the outer pulleys; and a sensor measuring stress applied to the inner pulley by the wire.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2014
