Disclosed are: a moving object detection system using a headlight beam pattern for preventing a collision between a vehicle and an object; and a moving object detection method using the same. The moving object detection system comprises: a light source unit, an image generating unit, a beam pattern detecting unit, and a position detecting unit. The light source unit outputs light to an external scene. The image generating unit generates an image of the external scene through the light. While the vehicle stops, the beam pattern detecting unit receives a first image taken when the light is outputted and a second image taken when the light is turned off, produces a differential image between the first image and the second image, and generates a beam pattern by correcting the produced image. While the vehicle travels, the position detecting unit transforms the previous and subsequent images of travel images positioned within the beam pattern to two-dimensional perspective images, calculates vector coordinates of the moving object and the image generating unit based on the transformed two-dimensional perspective images, and generates a detection signal by detecting a position of the moving object based on the calculated vector coordinates.
