FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: method of determining the ratio of the total amount of free moisture contained in peat mass to moisture released therefrom by sedimentation involves collecting a representative sample from the extracted peat mass, mixing the sample and collecting multiple samples from different segments of the common sample, repeated mixing, centrifuging and then drying the obtained residue. Before centrifuging, the sample is divided into two parts, one of which is the control part and the other is placed in glass cylinders for one day, after which the amount of freely released moisture is determined. The remaining residue is centrifuged and dried, followed by calculation of the ratio of moisture released by sedimentation to the total amount of free moisture.;EFFECT: invention increases the accuracy of determining properties of the peat mass overall.
