1. A method for optimizing a parameter in a motor vehicle, said optimization being based on a cost function, wherein said cost function depends on at least the first and second terms, shows the relationship between the at least first and second terms, and takes on a function value characterized in that: - said cost function is configured so that a dependence on at least one additional term can be introduced into said cost function by means of a config adjusting said at least first and second members and said at least one additional member so that each is based on a respective aspect related to said motor vehicle, and that each takes the form of a corresponding squared standardized aspect value, with standardization being carried out through a reference value for each aspect; wherein, said cost function then maintains said mutual relationship between said at least first and second members and shows the mutual relationship between said at least one additional member and said at least first and second members. The method according to claim 1, wherein said reference value takes the form of a corresponding value obtained by a standard system for automatically maintaining speed. A method according to any one of claims 1 and 2, wherein said mutual relations between said at least first and second members take the form of convex comb
