According to the invention, there is provided a solution that is based on the use of an archiving system (100) for archiving digital documents (1.1, 1.2), which includes a memory (105) and an interface (102.1) for connection to a communication line (102). The archiving system (100) is designed as an independent computer system that includes a processor (110) and a program memory (111) with a software for controlling the operations of the filing system. Furthermore, the archiving system (100) comprises a signature module (104) for digitally signing the digital documents (1.1). The above-mentioned processor (110), controlled by the software, loads automatically digital documents (1.1) via the interface (102.1) from outside of the archiving system (100) in the memory (105). The digital documents (1.1) are, before they are stored in the memory (105), certified and signed. These documents (1.2) then to be able to permanently store and ensure the permanent storage is a memory (105) for use. In the non-volatile memory, the document (1.2) are neither erasable nor modifiable.
