Support structure comprises a body (2), padding (4) with an upper gel layer (6) and a cover (7). The padding and cover are made from at least one petroleum-derived polymer material e.g. polyurethane foam and at least one material from renewable sources where the carbon footprint in terms of the quantity of equivalent carbon dioxide per unit weight of material is relatively low and the percentage of radiocarbon-14 per unit weight of the material is relatively high. The quantity of equivalent carbon dioxide per 1kg of padding material is = 9.5kg and most preferably between 4.9kg and 3.5kg and the percentage of radiocarbon-14 of the padding material is = 0.01% and most perferably between 40% and 10%. The quantity of equivalent carbon dioxide per 1kg of coating material is = 9.5kg and most preferably between 3.6kg and 2.0kg and the percentage of radiocarbon-14 of the coating material is = 0.01% and most perferably between 60% and 40%.
