There is provided a gas turbine operating temperature optimization based on a measured sulfur content of the gas turbine system (100) supplied fuel. The inventive system includes a diagnostic system (204), which is designed so that it determines a maximum operating temperature for a burner (104) of a gas turbine system. The diagnostic system determines the maximum operating temperature on the basis of a correlation between a predetermined sulfur content and a maximum operating temperature and an actual sulfur content of a fuel supplied to the burner (104). The system is also designed so that it outputs an indicator of a change of an actual operating temperature in the burner of the gas turbine system in response to the fact that certain maximum operating temperature of the actual operating temperature of the burner (104) of the gas turbine system (100) is different.
