A method for the visualization of plaque deposits (7) consists of 3d - image data sets of vascular structures (4), in particular of the coronary vascular tree, in which at least a portion (5) of the vascular structure with the plaque deposits (7) in the 3d - image data set segmented image data is segmented, in order to obtain,characterized by the,that of the segmented image data of an artificial 3d - model image (12, 13) of the at least one section (5) of the vascular structure and the plaque deposits (7) is produced, the only limiting surfaces of the vascular structure and the plaque deposits comprises,the creation of the artificial 3d - model image (12, 13) by spatial interpolation between pixels, which belong to boundary surfaces of the vascular structure, and between pixels, the boundary surfaces of the plaque deposits (7) in order to provide a uniform grid of pixels for the 3d - model image and in order to obtain the 3d model with a relative to the increased resolution 3 - d - image data to be able to represent, and the artificial 3d - model image (12, 13) or a partial volume thereof as polygon-network (11) are made and is visualized.
