A method for operating a magnetically levitated railway with long stator, wherein a stator section (3) at its first connection to a two substations (1a, 2a) power supply line (4) and at its second terminal to ground potential (5) is joined, the stator portion (3) at its two terminals by means of a first (8) and a second switch (9) with two connection points (6, 7) to the energy supply line (4) is connected, wherein in the power supply line (4) between the two connection points (6, 7) is a third switch (10) is arranged and the two terminals of the stator portion (3) via a fourth (11) and a fifth switch (12) with the earth potential (5) are connected, characterized in that, for the start-up of the first (8) and the second switch (9) are closed and the third (10), fourth (11) and fifth switch (12) are opened in such a way that during the start-up of the stator portion 14a and to increase the motor voltage with two substations is connected in series and that for driving the third switch (10) is closed, and either the first (8) and the fifth switch (12) is closed and the second (9) and the fourth switch (11) are opened or the first (8) and the fifth switch (12) is opened, and the second (9) and the fourth switch (11) are closed.
