A directional coupler, which has the following features:a ground electrode (7), which, on a main surface of a substrate (1) is arranged;a line section, which on the other main surface of the substrate (1) and which is arranged, together with the ground electrode (7) is a microstrip line (2) forms, wherein the line section a coupling line portion (10) extending along an edge portion of the substrate (1); anda main line (3), which is arranged, at high frequencies with the coupling line portion (10) to be coupled, wherein the main line (3) and the coupling line portion (10) are arranged substantially parallel to each other,the ground electrode (7) is a notch portion (13, 20, 21, 22), in which a part of the ground electrode (7) opposite to the coupling line portion (10), starting from the edge portion of the substrate (1) is removed.
