Y-thorax drainage for use on two target areas in the thorax

Because of its positioning in the thorax, a thoracic drainage cannot drain fluids and air completely simultaneously or at the same time in two target areas. For this reason, two thoracic drainages are often used after thoracic surgery. A necessary second drain incision and additional drainage connection points can endanger the patient through accidental disconnection and dislocation. In addition, immobility and pain due to two drainage containers and drainage incisions represent additional burdens for the patient and healing. The Y-thoracic drainage completely drains all liquids and air in parallel at two target areas. A thoracic incision is sufficient. Additional connections are not required. One leg of each Y-shaped part of the drainage is placed in the pleural cavity at the target areas of the pleural dome (1) and diaphragm angle (2). The common drainage part (3) is led out via a drainage incision between the ribs and connected to a drainage container (3, 5). The Y-thoracic drainage is suitable for air and fluid drainage in two intrapleural target areas after thoracic surgery.
