The switchable coupling has a spring unit (9), which is arranged at a coupling hub (6) of a drive shaft (3) and at the coupling hub (7) of an output shaft (8), and is connected with a control sleeve (10). The spring unit transmits rotation of the drive shaft to the output shaft to be applied on the coupling hubs in a self-closing manner. The spring unit comprises a spring element, e.g. a helical spring with a rectangular cross-section. The control sleeve concentrically surrounds the spring unit and the two coupling hubs. The control sleeve has a recess oriented towards the spring unit. An independent claim is included for a switchable pump.
