The device i.e. circuit breaker (2), has a switching mechanism (33) for opening and keeping a contact point to be open. Thermomechanical transducers (1) comprise a partial strip (3a), which is made of a thermal bimetal or a shape memory alloy and directly or indirectly heated by current through current path. The transducers include another partial strip (4) i.e. beam, which is made of steel and not made of thermal bimetal and shape memory alloy. The latter strip is connected with the former strip, and a coupling unit (9) couples the transducers with the switching mechanism at the latter strip.
