The device comprises a process chamber (4), a building chamber (5), an applicator (6) for the applying a building material stored in a dosing chamber (7), an irradiation device (8) for irradiating the coated layers of the building material at the respective cross-section of an object, a grinding device for smoothing the solidified layers, where the applicator and the grinding device comprise separate power units, and are separately movable in the process chamber. The applicator is arranged between the dosing chamber and an exposed area of the building chamber. The device comprises a process chamber (4), a building chamber (5), an applicator (6) for the applying a building material stored in a dosing chamber (7), an irradiation device (8) for irradiating the coated layers of the building material at the respective cross-section of an object, a grinding device for smoothing the solidified layers, where the applicator and the grinding device comprise separate power units, and are separately movable in the process chamber. The grinding device is arranged in a parking position at a first side region of the process chamber during the coating operation, and the applicator is arranged in a parking position at another side region of the process chamber during the grinding operation, where the parking positions of the grinding device and the applicator are arranged in opposite side regions of the process chamber, and are arranged rectangularly to each other. The applicator and the grinding device are identically arranged in parallel layers in the process chamber. The applicator is arranged between the dosing chamber and an exposed area of the building chamber. The applicator has an essentially L-shaped cross-section, and comprises a coater blade that is arranged at a blade carrier body that runs horizontally and parked in an angular range under the grinding device. The power units are belt-like power units that are driven by a motor and rotate in longitudinal recesses of the side walls of the process chamber. The longitudinal recesses are arranged in a retainer of the power units of the applicator and the grinding device. A grinding roller is arranged the grinding device and is driven to rotate in a construction area to open towards a housing. The grinding device is moved with a first rate in the layer region which is ground and at second rate over the layer region. The housing of the grinding device is connected with a suction device, where a suction flow is flown through the housing of the grinding device. A channel is arranged in a basic modular dimension side wall and is covered by the power units. The belt-shaped power units are designed as toothed belts. The power units are broken through for the formation of a suction opening in the range of the housing of the grinding device. The housing of the grinding device is provided with a cleaning apparatus that includes a collecting gutter for sharpening the residues. A sharpening residue grinding off element is provided in the range of the parking position of the grinding device.
