The display (5) has a decorative element (7) that is backlit by a light source i.e. LED. The decorative element is arranged with a visible side facing interior or fascia (1) of a vehicle, and a rear side facing the light source. A set of regions i.e. groove-shaped recesses (13), made of light transmissive materials is arranged for formation of a set of display symbols (S). The decorative element is formed of a material such as ceramic material, that is provided between its visible side and its rear side continuously over an entire thickness. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an icon display.
