The device (101) has a detecting unit i.e. optical sensor, for laterally detecting a traffic space beside and behind a vehicle. A projection surface is designed as a portion (103) of a front side plate (102) of the vehicle. The portion of the plate comprises a tone and an electrochromic coating. The plate comprises liquid crystal (LC) glasses or polymeric dispersed LC (PDLC) glasses. A control unit (108) controls a transmission property of the coating and the glasses based on environment lightness measured by a sensor (107) and information of image representation on a projection surface. The tone is formed as a transparent dye. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle.
