The device (10) has a first holding unit (16) for holding the laminated core (12) of stator of drive motor (24). A second holding unit (18) is used for holding a rotor (14) of the drive motor. The holding units are moveable between assembly position in which holding units are spaced apart, and operating position in which holding units are brought closer. A torque sensor is used for measuring torque acting on the shaft and temperature sensor is used for measuring temperature of the core, so that core loss is determined based on the measured torque and temperature values. An independent claim is included for method for determining core loss in lamination core for electrical machine.
