The tool has workpiece and tool holders (2, 3) movably arranged relative to each other and guided in a front part (4) of the tool for processing metallic workpieces at a pillar-shaped machine frame (1). A switchgear cabinet (5) and a fluidic aggregate (6) are arranged in a back part (9) of the tool such that the switchgear cabinet and the aggregate along a width (B) are narrower than a width (C) of the tool in the front part. Chips under the switchgear cabinet and the aggregate are removed through a chip conveyor. A chip neck (7) and a chip wagon (8) are arranged on the back part of the tool. The workpiece holders are designed as motor spindles. An independent claim is also included for a machine tool assembly.
