The fuel delivery system is connected with a cylinder head (3) of an internal combustion engine, to define a stepped injector bore with a web (6). The fuel line (5) and fuel injector (2) are partly arranged in the stepped injector bore. A height-adjustable element (1) is arranged between the web and the fuel injector. The height-adjustable element is an annular-shaped washer. The height adjustment of the element is effected hydraulically. The element is made of a deformable material, and is filled with a liquid medium. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) motor car; and (2) method for operating an internal combustion engine.
