The device (2) has a measuring system (22) which is formed to measure a distance of a blank material (1) extended parallel to the feed direction (V). An image detection system (24) is configured to generate a sectional image of the blank material. The device is configured to set the reference point in response to a pattern automatically recognized in the image. The image detection system is configured to generate the images in an image detecting clock which is provided by the measured distance. An independent claim is included for a method for measuring longitudinal- and transverse distortions of a blank material movable in a feed direction of a production line.
