The cutting edges (3) are moved from a starting position on an edge of a bevel gear blank over the entire tooth width direction. The cutting edges are positioned in the starting position. The tooth flanks of the bevel gear are entirely formed along the tooth width direction. The pitch difference between the hob and workpiece is balanced by relative movements between the hob and workpiece. An independent claim is included for a hob for processing straight-toothed bevel gear.
