The rail (6) has a sliding surface (18) arranged at a carrier body (12) for contacting with an endless drive unit. A thrust piece (13) is arranged at the carrier body and comprises a pressing portion (10) for contact with a clamping apparatus. The thrust piece is formed as a portion of an extruded profile strand. The thrust piece is made of engineering thermoplastic. Plastic material of the thrust piece is aligned in a longitudinal direction of the carrier body. The thrust piece comprises a ventilation groove in the pressing portion. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a chain drive for an internal combustion engine (2) a method for manufacturing a tensioning rail for an endless drive unit of an internal combustion engine.
