Welding device comprises (a) a welding gripper unit (3), which connects a resistor element (15) driven into a first joining partner (11), preferably sheet metal part made of aluminum or other materials with a second joining partner (13), preferably steel sheet metal part by resistance spot welding, and (b) a positioning template (19). The welding gripper unit comprises a first welding electrode, which is pressed in a welding position with a feed force in contact with an element head of the resistor element, and a second welding electrode. Welding device comprises (a) a welding gripper unit (3), which connects a resistor element (15) driven into a first joining partner (11), preferably sheet metal part made of aluminum or other materials with a second joining partner (13), preferably steel sheet metal part by resistance spot welding, and (b) a positioning template (19). The welding gripper unit comprises a first welding electrode, which is pressed in a welding position with a feed force in contact with an element head of the resistor element, and a second welding electrode, which is positioned as a counter-holder on the side of the second joining part facing away the first welding electrode. The positioning template is adjustable on the element head of the resistor element. The positioning template provides a reference contour for centrally attaching the first welding electrode on the element head. An independent claim is also included for resistor element welding with the welding device.
