The transverse differential has a drive unit (16) which drives two driving wheels. An input element (26) is coupled with an output (30) of drive unit. Several output elements (32,34) are coupled to driving wheels. A friction clutch (40) is connected with output elements for operating an electromechanical actuator (42) in order to establish or cancel the transverse barrier between driving wheels. The friction clutch has friction elements (44,46) which are connected to output elements respectively. An electric motor and cam arrangement are coupled through a control shaft.
