The method involves analyzing a fault condition in the presence of error in a loading operation, and outputting a fault-indicating output by a control unit (9). A restoration of a charging operation is initiated in an error mode, upon detection of drawing and pushing a plug (5) into a charging socket (8) of a motor vehicle (1), and/or stopped after a predetermined waiting time. A counter is increased in the restoration of the state of charge at the fault condition, after the predetermined waiting time. An independent claim is included for a motor vehicle.
