Increasing conductivity of joints having base using an ionic compound, comprises (a) purifying the base, (b) wetting the base and the joint with at least one ionic compound, and (c) drying the base. The ionic compound is an ionic liquid comprising organic cations, dialkyl phosphate, alkyl sulfate, or alkane sulfonate anion. The alkyl groups present in the anion comprises 1-10 carbon atoms. The alkyl groups present in the anion is optionally branched and comprises heteroatoms comprising sulfur or sulfur.
