The interface converter (SK) has a non-automotive interface and an automotive Wireless local area network-interface. An environment-monitoring system is provided to shift the interface converter in an operating mode in the presence of specific monitoring results and to shift the interface converter in another operating mode in the absence of specific monitoring results. The interface converter automatically establishes a data connection to the vehicle (Fi) under specific boundary conditions or establishes a data connection to the mobile or fixed station. An independent claim is included for a method for transmitting data between a vehicle and a mobile or fixed station.
