The device (2) has a plasma nozzle (4) producing an atmospheric plasma jet (6), and a discharge space (10) formed within the nozzle with a nozzle opening (12) for outlet of the plasma jet. A channel (20) is formed between an intake opening (16) of the nozzle and the nozzle opening such that a wire (22) to be treated is passed via the channel. A dielectric small tube portion (30) surrounding the channel is arranged in the nozzle such that the channel is partially electrically insulated against the discharge space. The dielectric material is a high temperature insulator, quartz glass or ceramic. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating a conductive material wire.
